The St Kitts and Nevis International Ship Registry (SKANReg) has created efficiencies in the way it operates by launching a range of electronic certificates it says will not only speed up the registration process but help in the industry’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
The E-Certification process will go live on January 31st. It follows the lodging of a notification of the initiative with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

St. Kitts & Nevis International Ship Registry (SKANReg) commenced operation in 2005. By the end of 2019 it had registered over 2000 vessels with 800+ currently registered. It also has also issued seafarer documents to over 25,000 seafarers of many nationalities.
Liam Ryan, spokesperson for The St Kitts and Nevis International Ship Registry, said the move to digitise its certification process was an important step in helping to speed up the way the Registry responds to the needs of its shipowners and managers.
“It is well known that shipping is changing as it embraces the digital age and this initiative by St Kitts and Nevis ensures we can react with the precision and efficiency that the market is demanding. We have lodged official notification with the IMO and have put in place stringent security processes to ensure the documentation is safe,” he said.
